Her cover story

Meet Tiffany

Sequins at sunset, flat shoes in the rain, a small camera in between: Tiffany's life runs on details, and she notices every one. She is petite of frame yet 169 cm tall, and long chocolate brown hair frames her warm brown eyes. The look is beachside boho glamour with a sequin sparkle: a slip dress that catches the light, a woven clutch, fine gold anklets, a slick of shimmer across the cheekbones.

Graceful and playful in equal measure, Tiffany spots the one beautiful thing in any room and points it out to you. She photographs the city's streets in black and white, loves champagne for the ritual as much as the taste, and keeps a wish list of design hotels around the world, annotated with the details she adores: a staircase in Lisbon, a door handle in Copenhagen. In her mid twenties, she speaks light, animated English and has a giggle that turns heads.

In Mayfair her favourite place for a glass is the Foyer at Claridge's, all Art Deco curves with the great Chihuly chandelier glowing overhead. Before that, if there is light left, she might lead you through Shepherd Market, the tiny village of lanes and old pubs behind Curzon Street, pausing to photograph a doorway or a lamp. It is the perfect contrast, and she knows it. Once inside, she always chooses the banquette with the best view of the chandelier and admits it without a trace of shame.

Tiffany lives in Soho, about ten minutes from Mayfair, and her midweek evenings are the most open. The rates page lists each length of evening; then send Bella the date.

Tiffany's midweek evenings are the easiest to book. A glass in the Foyer at Claridge's is her favourite opening, so ask Bella to allow time for it before dinner.

An evening with Tiffany

Tiffany approaches an evening like a photographer on assignment: always looking, always delighted. She likes to meet somewhere beautiful, a lobby with a chandelier, a bar with good glassware, and she will point out the details you would have walked past without a glance. Champagne comes early and is treated with ceremony; she will explain why the bubbles in a good glass are so fine. Dinner is playful and full of stories about the hotels she still wants to visit, and she wants to hear about yours. She is graceful, attentive and quick to laugh, especially at herself. Later the sparkle softens into something warm and close, and the evening becomes one of those details she would photograph if only she could.

The interview

In Tiffany's own words

Three questions guests like to ask Tiffany before a first evening.

Colour tells you what a street looks like. Black and white tells you how it feels. I prefer the feeling, every time.

A spiral staircase with a brass rail worn smooth by a hundred years of hands. I still think about it.

A tulip glass, honestly. The coupe is prettier and the flute is tidier, but the tulip lets the champagne actually breathe.

Notes on Tiffany

Tiffany's letters page is still blank, and it stays that way until a real guest writes in. Nothing here is ever written for her.

When a note does arrive, Bella reads every word first; we print a first name and the month, never more, and if Tiffany wants a note gone, it goes.
