Special edition: an overnight companion who is still good company at breakfast

Every issue has one special edition, and ours is the overnight. Ten hours with the same companion for £2,400, usually opening with dinner and closing with breakfast carried up to the suite. It is the booking for guests who dislike watching the clock, and for evenings that deserve an unhurried morning after them.

Overnights are best raised a day ahead, because the women who suit them clear their diaries properly for the night. Margo, in her early thirties and unhurried by nature, and Milena, who is happy to take on a long booking when plans change late, are the names Bella puts forward most readily.

Part one

How the ten hours fall

A typical overnight begins around eight. Dinner fills the first stretch, perhaps China Tang in the lacquered rooms beneath The Dorchester or a quiet table at The Chesterfield on Charles Street, followed by a nightcap at the hotel bar or upstairs. The later hours belong to conversation, a film or simply sleep. Morning brings coffee, a proper breakfast and a relaxed goodbye, never a hurried one.

Part two

Why a day ahead helps

An hour can be arranged on the spot, but a whole night takes some planning on her side. A day's notice lets your companion organise her own morning, pack what she needs and arrive relaxed instead of dashing across town. Same day overnights do happen, especially midweek, so it is always worth asking. Bella will say straight away whether the night is possible and with whom.

Part three

Rooms that suit a long night

Space matters over ten hours. A junior suite with a sitting area, a park facing room at Grosvenor House or a suite at 45 Park Lane feels like a home for the night rather than a place to sleep. Serviced apartments around Grosvenor Square work equally well, with a kitchen for the morning coffee. If your room is compact, describe it to Bella; she will tell you candidly whether a dinner out first would make the evening flow better.

Part four

What £2,400 covers

At £2,400 the overnight works out far cheaper per hour than any shorter line, which is why some guests who might book two separate evenings choose one long one instead. Zones 1 and 2 add not a penny for her taxi. The full sum is hers, paid face to face as she arrives, and nothing is added at breakfast. Dinner and room service are yours as host. Every figure on the ladder sits on the rates page.

Part five

Companions for the long format

Calm company matters more than sparkle at three in the morning. Danielle, with her old films and her morning poetry, is a natural choice for a long, quiet evening. Patricia, slim and soft spoken with auburn layers, likes to hear about an overnight a day or two before. Both of them, like Margo and Milena, live a short drive from the hotels on Park Lane, so a ten hour booking there is easy to arrange.

Part six

Breakfast, and the morning after

The last hour of an overnight is often the one guests remember. Order breakfast to the room the night before, or walk out to a dining room that does it properly; The Wolseley on Piccadilly is a short stroll from most W1 addresses. Your companion will be dressed and composed by the time the coffee arrives, happy to linger over the papers or to leave promptly if you have an early meeting. Tell her the plan for the morning at dinner, and it will run exactly that way.

Part seven

Starting late, or carrying on

An overnight can begin after a gala, a late meeting or a delayed flight, with the ten hours counted from her arrival. If one night turns into two, the double issue is the format for it, quoted as a single figure. And if you would like the evening without the morning, the dinner date at £1,300 gives you four hours around a table instead.

Yes, unless the two of you agree to end earlier. The figure stays the same either way, and she leaves when you say goodbye, after breakfast if that was the plan.

Sometimes. Midweek a same day overnight is often possible, while weekends fill sooner. Message Bella in the afternoon and she will confirm within minutes whether it can be arranged.

Yes. Bella checks the address with you a single time before your companion leaves, the same as for any booking at a home.

The same rules as every booking apply: free with three hours' notice or more, half the figure inside the last two hours, and the whole of it for a no-show.

Yes. The ten hour line is £2,400 on any night of the week, bank holidays included. Weekend diaries simply fill a little sooner, which is the only reason to ask early.
