Her cover story

Meet Tina

At 158 cm, Tina makes a convincing case that presence is not measured in centimetres. Compact and athletic, her espresso brown hair worn long, her brown eyes warm and quick, she walks into a bar as if she designed it, and in a sense she might have: she trained in fashion design and still makes some of her own clothes. Expect clean, classic lines, a perfectly cut black dress, a tailored jacket with a surprise lining, and shoes that are sensible only by her standards.

Confident, warm and easygoing, Tina has the knack of making a new acquaintance feel like a regular. Her hobbies all involve craft and care: cocktails built properly, with a strong opinion on ice; a record collection that leans towards seventies funk and Italian film soundtracks; and a sketchbook of designs she may or may not ever make. In her mid twenties, she speaks relaxed, witty English, and her laugh is quick and generous.

Her Mayfair evening might start with a walk down Savile Row to admire the tailoring in the windows, which she critiques with a professional eye and real affection. Then drinks at the Donovan Bar at Brown's Hotel, a clubby room of dark wood, stained glass and black and white photographs, where she likes the bartenders' twists on the classics and always asks how they make their ice.

Tina lives in Covent Garden, a short cab from Bond Street and the Mayfair hotels, and is often free at short notice. Every booking length is listed on the rates page; Bella will confirm her in writing.

An evening with Tina

Tina's evenings have a good rhythm and a strong drink at the centre. She likes to start with a short walk, looking at windows and talking about what makes a cut work, then settle into a proper bar where she can watch the bartender's technique. Conversation flows easily; she is interested in what you do and happy to talk about anything from vintage fabrics to the best record she found this year. She is confident without being showy and warm without being fussy. Dinner can be simple or grand, as long as the company is good. Later, in your suite, she turns relaxed and affectionate, the kind of easy, stylish company that makes you wonder why every evening is not like this.

The interview

In Tina's own words

Three questions guests like to ask Tina before a first evening.

Big, clear and cold. Small cloudy ice melts too fast and drowns the drink. A bar that cares about ice cares about everything.

Something funky with a big bass line. It gets the room moving before anyone has decided whether to dance.

The lining. Nobody sees it, except you and whoever you choose to show. That is where I hide the fun colours.

Notes on Tina

Tina's letters page is still blank, and it stays that way until a real guest writes in. Nothing here is ever written for her.

When a note does arrive, Bella reads every word first; we print a first name and the month, never more, and if Tina wants a note gone, it goes.
