Toned and athletic: five women whose discipline shows in every step

The fitness pages of a glossy always promise a new you by Friday. The five women in this archetype skipped the promise and put in the hours. Each has a discipline that shaped the way she moves, from the tennis court to the barre, and it shows in a posture that still looks perfect at midnight.

Heights run from 158 to 172 cm and shades from honey blonde to jet. What unites the five is energy: every one of them would rather stroll across Berkeley Square than wait for a car.

Part one

Five disciplines, one quick read

Angelika plays tennis early, before most of Mayfair has had coffee, and carries 172 cm of easy athleticism with straight black hair. Laura, 169 cm with summer-streaked light brown hair and green eyes, rides near Hyde Park and skis every winter. Nora, honey blonde at 166 cm, is on her feet from the dawn flower market to an evening walk down Bond Street. Sonya, 162 cm with dark brown hair and hazel eyes, still takes ballet class twice a week. Tina, 158 cm and espresso brown, has a fashion designer's restlessness and seems never to sit still.

Part two

Morning in the park, evening at the table

Athletic companions come into their own when a day starts early. Laura might propose a brisk walk into Hyde Park from Park Lane before your first meeting, Angelika an hour among the Cork Street galleries as they open, and Sonya a slow circuit of Berkeley Square beneath the plane trees. By evening all five are as polished as anyone in the room, which makes them excellent company from breakfast to a late dinner.

Part three

Dinner, once the day is done

None of the five lives on protein shakes. Laura's reward is steak and pie in a panelled room on Bruton Place, Tina's a properly built cocktail at the Donovan Bar, Sonya's a calm Indian dining room on Queen Street, Nora's a glass of something sparkling at the Ritz, and Angelika's dim sum with a live band on Berkeley Street. Energy, in other words, extends all the way to the table, and so does the conversation.

Part four

Why this archetype travels well

Stamina counts on a travel booking: an early train, a long walk to the gate, a day of meetings and a dinner at the end of it. Three of these five, Laura, Nora and Sonya, appear on the jet set format, and Bella often suggests this archetype for anything that runs longer than an evening.

Part five

The same five, elsewhere

Angelika is also filed under statuesque and raven haired; Nora is one of the four blondes; Sonya and Tina turn up with the petite covers. Sonya, in her early thirties, belongs to thirties and beyond as well, while Laura, Nora and Tina sit in the late twenties.

Part six

Booking an athletic companion

The first hour is £400 with any of the five, and a longer day is quoted as one figure before you agree to anything. Tell Bella what the day involves, a lot of walking, a match to watch, a very early start, and she will match the companion to the pace. Every figure is on the rates page.
