Her cover story

Meet Liana

Slowly is her favourite word, and Liana likes it best in French: lentement, said the way a good waiter says it when you ask whether the soufflé will be worth the wait. Everything about her follows that tempo. Slim and 167 cm, graceful in the way pilates teaches, her chestnut brown hair falls straight to well below her shoulders, and her brown eyes are kind and steady. The wardrobe is classic romance with an evening edge: a cream silk blouse, a narrow skirt, pearl studs, and a perfume so faint it seems to be her own.

Gentle and quietly intuitive, Liana reads people well and never makes a show of it. She senses when you want to talk about work and when you would rather hear about anything else, and she steers accordingly. French literature is her lifelong companion, from Colette to Duras, and she tends a small garden of herbs and climbing roses that she talks about with real tenderness. Pilates keeps her posture beautiful and her mind calm. In her late twenties, she speaks soft, careful English, choosing her words the way she chooses her books.

For a Mayfair evening she steers towards Hélène Darroze at The Connaught, where the menu arrives as a board of ingredients and she enjoys choosing by instinct. Before dinner, if the light allows, she likes ten minutes in Mount Street Gardens, the hidden square behind the Jesuit church, where the benches carry little plaques and the plane trees hush the traffic. It is her favourite secret in W1, and she shares it gladly.

Liana is based in Marylebone, a few minutes north of Mount Street and the Connaught end of Mayfair. Quiet weeknights suit her best; our rates page lists every format, and Bella can usually confirm a day ahead.

An evening with Liana

Liana's evenings unfold like a well-made novel, with no chapter rushed. She begins with a walk, however short, because she believes conversation starts better on foot. Dinner is long and attentive, the courses allowed to arrive in their own good time; she tastes everything, asks about the wine and leaves the phone face down in her bag. Talk might drift to a Duras novel she rereads every autumn, the rose that finally climbed her trellis, or the small, true things you had not planned to say. She has a gift for comfortable silence, too, and lets a pause breathe. Later, in the soft light of your suite, the calm continues: gentle, warm, beautifully unhurried, the city nothing more than a murmur below.

The interview

In Liana's own words

Three questions guests like to ask Liana before a first evening.

Colette's Claudine, all grown up. She would be funny, a little outrageous and absolutely impossible to bore, and she would order dessert first.

Patience with yourself, mostly. Small, quiet movements, done properly, change far more than big dramatic ones ever do.

Sweet peas. They climb anything, smell like July and ask for nothing except to be picked often.

Notes on Liana

Liana's letters page is still blank, and it stays that way until a real guest writes in. Nothing here is ever written for her.

When a note does arrive, Bella reads every word first; we print a first name and the month, never more, and if Liana wants a note gone, it goes.
